Kama

The Sickle, a Common Household Tool

The kama was the farming sickle of ancient Okinawa.  It was used to harvest sugar cane.  It is still in use today to cut weeds and brush.  Kama techniques include blocking and stabbing, thrusting and slicing, as well as throwing and striking. 

Kama Kata

Kōbu no Kama is the only kama kata in Koburyū. The kama are used in pairs. One kama is often used to hook and trap an opponent’s weapon while cutting and slashing with the other.
